City of Toronto Survey: Sidewalk Litter
A note from the City of Toronto MLS policy review team:
The City of Toronto is reviewing issues related to cigarette butts and litter in front of licensed businesses, in particular, the regulation described in Toronto Municipal Code, Chapter 545, requiring licensed businesses to install and maintain temporary cigarette butt receptacles on the sidewalk adjacent to their business. The purpose of this work is to keep sidewalks cleaner by simplifying rules for licensed businesses, and raising awareness of responsibilities of business owners.
We are seeking feedback on these issues to inform a report to General Government and Licensing Committee in Spring 2020. As BIAs and licensed businesses, we encourage you to provide your feedback via a short survey, until February 28, 2020.
If you have any questions about this review, please contact us at mlsfeedback@toronto.ca.

40 Years, 40 Stories – Share Yours
The Riverside BIA is celebrating 40 Years in 2020! First formed in 1980 by a group of local business and property owners, the Queen Broadview Village Business Improvement Area is one of the first dozen BIAs in Toronto and the world.
In 2004, the name change to the ‘Riverside’ BIA reflected the neighbourhood’s name since the 1880s. The BIA and business community it serves have seen many other changes over the decades – some very big news and others perhaps hidden gems.
This year to celebrate and commemorate these first 40 years, we’d like to capture and share 40 short stories of the BIA from local business and property owners, residents and visitors. These stories will become a blog series, virtual time capsule, and self-guided Scavenger Hunt that will help local people and tourists alike get to know the Riverside BIA in 2020 and for years to come.
If you have a short story, pls share it with us via office@riverside-to.com (ideally written story plus photo(s)) or call us 416-466-8167 and we will help record your story. You can submit it with your name or anonymously.
