City of Toronto Survey Until Feb 28th: Sidewalk Litter

A note from the City of Toronto MLS policy review team:
The City of Toronto is reviewing issues related to cigarette butts and litter in front of licensed businesses, in particular, the regulation described in Toronto Municipal Code, Chapter 545, requiring licensed businesses to install and maintain temporary cigarette butt receptacles on the sidewalk adjacent to their business. The purpose of this work is to keep sidewalks cleaner by simplifying rules for licensed businesses, and raising awareness of responsibilities of business owners.
We are seeking feedback on these issues to inform a report to General Government and Licensing Committee in Spring 2020. As BIAs and licensed businesses, we encourage you to provide your feedback via a short survey, until February 28, 2020.
If you have any questions about this review, please contact us at mlsfeedback@toronto.ca.

These stories will become a blog series, virtual time capsule, and self-guided Scavenger Hunt that will help local people and tourists alike get to know the Riverside BIA in 2020 and for years to come.

Ontario Line Update

The Ontario government has introduced a bill that, if passed, would expand the province’s power to expropriate property and reduce requirements for environmental approvals, in a move that it says will speed up the construction of badly needed new transit projects. Read Toronto Star Article and the proposed bill
