TABIA Launches Digital Main Street

Digital Main Street – www.digitalmainstreet.ca – a new program focused on helping main street businesses connect to digital tools to help them manage and grow their businesses. On Monday, June 13, the Toronto Association of Business Improvement Areas (TABIA) in collaboration with Google, MasterCard, Rogers, Yellow Pages and Shopify, held their Digital Main Street Launch Party at the Drake Hotel. The Digital Main Street (DMS) initiative is a platform to help businesses, within BIAs, all across Toronto bring their company into the digital age. TABIA and the DMS partners believe that a key factor in becoming and maintaining a successful business, in this day and age, is having a great online presence.

DMS will provide Riverside BIA member businesses with free access to platform to help effectively launch their businesses into the online world and ensure that they are maximizing their online presence. The platform provides many services to businesses:

Digital Assessment
A questionnaire that reviews a business’ online presence. After the assessment, a list of tasks and strategies are provided to help improve online presence

Digital Service Squad
A group of students from George Brown College who have partnered with this initiative to help businesses with any of their DMS Platform and Assessment questions.

Resource Library
Many texts and resources to help improve one’s digital presence

BIAcademy
A module for BIAs with workshops and presentations, to learn strategies and techniques to better improve their areas.

The Riverside BIA will be participating in this initiative and is in the process of testing the DMS platform. Once we are all set up with the platform, we will be extending this opportunity to Riverside businesses.

 Stay tuned for more!!

Launch of 2016 Riverside Good Food Markets

Riverside’s 2016 Good Food Market season is launching this month again with two locations offering healthy, fresh and affordable produce every Thursday, 2-6pm (June to September):

1)  The Queen/Saulter Good Food Market (right beside the Library) launched June 16
2) The Rivertowne Good Food Market in Joel Weeks Park (Munro and Matilda St) launches June 23A project of local community associations, the Riverdale Food Working Group and the Ralph Thornton Centre, these markets are  “a community-led initiative working to make Riverdale/Riverside a food friendly and food secure neighbourhood”.

Volunteer based, Good Food Markets are a great example of a successful community initiative where people work together for the common goal of providing high quality, fresh and affordable food.  Fresh produce is delivered on market day, and is available essentially at cost for community members.

FoodShare Toronto is the supplier for the Good Food Markets in Riverside.  About 80% of what is ordered each week is local, with at least 2 organic items.

These markets feature seasonal local produce, plus imported favourites, to offer the greatest quality and cultural value to the neighbourhood. Each market uniquely reflects its community and is a vibrant and important gathering place providing opportunities for neighbours to meet, share information and celebrate.
