The Best Overlooked Parks In & Around Leslieville

The Best Overlooked Parks In & Around Leslieville

Toronto’s full of public parks, but the East End is home to some of the city’s most overlooked green spaces. Whether you’re up for a game of baseball, a scenic bike ride, or just a peaceful walk with your dog, these parks have something for everyone. Here are three underrated gems that definitely deserve a spot on your weekend itinerary.

Greenwood Park

📍 150 Greenwood Ave, just south of Gerrard St E

Greenwood Park might just be the most versatile park in Leslieville. Tucked between residential streets and Greenwood Ave, it’s got something for everyone. The newly renovated dog park has separate enclosures for large and small dogs, making it one of the most inclusive off-leash spaces around. There’s also a massive outdoor public pool, a community garden, and two well-maintained baseball diamonds.

But what really sets Greenwood apart is the covered outdoor rink. In winter, it’s a fully functional ice hockey rink with striking industrial architecture; in the summer, it transforms into a public basketball court or ball hockey arena. A true all-seasons community hub!

Kew Gardens

📍 2075 Queen St E, just west of Lee Ave

While technically in The Beach, Kew Gardens is close enough to feel like part of the Leslieville backyard. It’s especially great for families as there’s a massive castle-themed playground and splash pad! A path runs directly from the park down to the beach, making it a great starting point for a summer day by the water.

You’ll also find a big gazebo (perfect for photos or shade on hot days), tennis courts, and a small, peaceful wooded area with winding trails if you want a quick escape from the noise.

Taylor Creek Park

📍 Entrance near 260 Dawes Rd, East York

If you’re down for a bit of a walk, Taylor Creek is worth venturing slightly north for. Starting from the Dawes Road entrance, this park offers a long, scenic trail that follows the Taylor Massey Creek. It’s one of the best nature walks in the east end, with a mix of bridges, wildlife sightings, and full forest vibes. You’ll pass joggers, cyclists, and dog walkers along the way, especially heading toward the Taylor Creek Dog Park.

On the connected grounds of Stan Wadlow Park (just west of the creek trail), there’s also a solid skate park, playground, and baseball field. A perfect mix of urban and natural energy.
