In a remarkable series of events in the last 24 hours, DC Entertainment (Warner Brothers) has changed their minds in allowing the use of their Superman Logo on the Jeffrey Baldwin memorial statue. Under a lot of a pressure through various media outlets as well as social media, the company had this to say:
“We are honored by the relationship that our fans have with our characters, and fully understand the magnitude of their passion,” a company spokesperson said in a statement released this morning. “We take each request seriously and our heartfelt thoughts go out to the victims, the family and those affected. DC Entertainment uses a flexible set of criteria when we receive worthy requests such as this, and at times have reconsidered our initial stance. After verifying the support of appropriate family members, DC Entertainment will be allowing the Jeffrey Baldwin Memorial Statue to feature the Superman S Shield.”
This makes me very happy! Superman has been a protector of the people since 1938! He was labelled the “champion of the oppressed” (Action Comics #1) and the “friend of the helpless” (Action Comics #7). It would have really been a shame to for Warner Brothers not to take this opportunity to stand up against child abuse with us!
Kudos to you! Warner Brothers. And thanks again to Todd Boyce, the organizer. Perhaps one of the more remarkable community initiatives I have seen for sometime! And the man doesn’t even live here. THANKS TODD! Good karma must be coming your way, I would be buying a lottery ticket right around now!
